That route was the "South Road", which became operational in 115 BC due to the opening of state post road along the southern and northern edges of the Takla Makan Desert. How to tell "The descriptions of the Western Territory," Khan's dynastic chronicles, "South Road" led to Daqing (the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire) through the Pamirs, Khotan, Yarkand, Balkh, Merv, Gekatompil and Ecbatana (modern Hamadan). Then it was divided into two branches.
One of the branches, while the main road, led to Seleucia-Ctesiphon on the Tigris and further along the road of the ancient Achaemenid (the royal road of Darius) in Mesopotamia (Mesopotamia), and Syria. Its terminal was then the capital of Syria - Antioch.
Another branch moved away to Armenia, its then capital Artashat. She ran through Gandzak-Shahastan (Gazaka), then the center Atropatena Median (Small Media, the current Iranian Azerbaijan). The road ran along the eastern coast of Lake Urmia, and crossed the river at Arak Jugha (Julfa). Then, through Nakhichevan along the left bank of the river Arax she went to Ararat plain.
